CRIME AGAINST WOMEN

Violence against women isn’t cultural, it’s criminal. Equality cannot come eventually; it is something we must fight for now. An eight-year-old girl “ASIFA” has been gang-raped and murdered a piece of much-heard news. In India, a woman is raped every 29 minutes. Many cases of violence occur due to the system of dowry. In eastern India, a women and her one-year-old child were burned alive for  dowry.  Human trafficking is one of the fastest-growing activities of transnational criminal organizations. Girls are forced to get married at young ages. Crime against women also includes acid throwing, domestic violence, honour killings etc.  The Indian government has done a lot for safeguarding the interests of women. Policies like National mission for empowerment of women, policy for reservation etc. had been introduced. We must always respect and treat women equally. Only by doing this we can regain the same prestige as written in Vedas.
